Let's Roll Some Oysters!

From the outside, Chen’s Oyster rolls looks a little bit like your typical fast food chain, but don’t be fooled by these looks, Chen’s Oyster Rolls holds great surprises for your taste buds. It is the real deal, real fast and delicious food and all of the ingredients are acquired just a few meters away in the Fish Market; its hard to get any fresher than that!

The logo!

Just approaching the place you notice the presence of locals, which is always a good sign.

Locals Entering the Joint

As the name of the joint can tell you, this place is all about the Oysters; baked, steamed and fried the Oysters are the star of the show. Here you will be able to try the very famous Tainanese Oyster Omelette among other delicacies. The big menu on the counter shows up photos and the names in English of their signature dishes, the rest is only in Chinese.

As I have come to understand it to be the norm, there will be a piece of paper with all the items in the menu, you should indicate how many of each you want and deliver it to the cashier, and well, pay. My recommendation is as usual, look for what you want taking into account the price and the number of characters (as the ordering note is only in Chinese).

The Menu.
My selection included the traditional Oyster Rolls (obligated choice as the dish gives the joint its name), Shrimp Rolls and Shrimp Cakes. Simple and delicious, seafood very well seasoned, combined with carrots and scallions covered in a very light and fluffy tempura-like crust and accompanied with some adrenaline pumping wasabi sauce, believe you me, it will blow your mind.

It is a very hearty food, it will fulfil all your desires and fill your soul with joy. If you find yourself in Tainan, it is a must.
